60th Birthday concert at Sheffield City Hall
On the 16th of December, the eagerly awaited performance of Bach’s six Brandenburg Concertos by Trevor Pinnock and the European Brandenburg Ensemble took place in the magnificently restored Sheffield City Hall, Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall. The concert was in celebration of Trevor Pinnock’s sixtieth Birthday and also launched the Ensemble’s tour of Europe and the Far East.
This landmark cultural event was a culmination of 18 months’ planning and partnership between South Yorkshire’s arts and business communities. Trevor Pinnock is not by any means ‘Yorkshire born and bred’. However, since his first visit to Sheffield in 1985 he has developed a special affinity with the city. He is closely associated with chamber music promoters Music in the Round and Artistic Director Peter Cropper and in 2005 he received an honorary degree from the University of Sheffield. For this reason he chose to celebrate his sixtieth birthday in the city.
A 1380 strong audience from across the UK enjoyed the City Hall performance and what local commentators described as ‘Pinnock’s winning way with the Brandenburgs’.
