Trevor Pinnock Gala Concert Series

This is an initiative of the Faversham Music Club of which Trevor is President.  The inaugural concert is on 16th March 2013 in the church of St Mary of Charity in Faversham, Kent.  The concert is part of the celebrations to premiere a new arrangement of Bruckner's Second Symphony by Anthony Payne.  It will be performed by the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Ensemble, conducted by Trevor.
The Bruckner will be preceded by a performance of a new piece 'Celebrating Anton' created by talented young musicians from all over Kent who have taken part in the first Young Musicians course led by composer, David Knotts.
All proceeds from the Gala Concert will be devoted to the Trevor Pinnock Youth Scheme, in order to continue Trevor's work in helping young people to experience classical music and to work with top flight musicians.
In 2014 the Gala Concert will Feature Alison Balsom, with whom Trevor has just recorded a cd 'Sound the Trumpet' of music for baroque trumpet and orchestra (see the discography page for cd details).

Don Giovanni

Starting on 25th January 2013 and continuing until 10th February, Trevor is conducting the opera 'Don Giovanni' by W.A. Mozart at Houston's Grand Opera House.  See the diary pages on this site for details and read a preview from the Houston Chronicle here.

The Flute King

January 2012 is the 300th anniversary of the birth of an enlightened monach whose love of music changed the musical scene in continental Europe.  To celebrate this Emmanuel Pahud and Trevor Pinnock have released an album on EMI Classics and perform music written for and by the gifted flautist, composer and patron of the arts, King Frederick the Great of Prussia. The release features concerti, solo sonatas and chamber works by J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Johann Joachim Quantz, Franz Benda, Johann Friedrich Agricola, Anna Amalia von Preussen and Frederick the Great. Trevor Pinnock directs the Kammerakadamie Potsdam and they and Emmanuel are joined by guest artists Jonathan Manson and Matthew Truscott.  Trevor, Emmanuel and the Kammerakadamie Potsdam also tour Germany and Switzerland, and visit Versailles and Warsaw during January.  See the diary and the discography for details, and for a feature on the project (by Clemency Burton-Hill) including interviews with Trevor and Emmanuel please visit the Askonas Holt web site.
Here also is a clip from a Swiss News programme recorded at rehearsals for the concert in Liestal.

Messiah in Canada

In December 2011 Trevor made one of his regular visits to the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada, where he conducted two performances of Handel's 'Messiah', as well as playing the harpsichord in a concert of chamber music featuring Bach, Scarlatti and Telemann.  Click here to visit the blog page of the National Arts Centre and hear an interview with Trevor talking about 'Messiah' and some of his thoughts surrounding the piece and its performance.

'Trevor Pinnock and Friends'

In May and June 2011 Trevor and colleagues Lucy Crowe, Nuria Rial, Katy Bircher, Beatrix Hülsemann, Jane Gordon, Christian Goosses, Jonathan Manson, Richard Lester and James Munro toured with a programme of chamber music including a suite of songs and instrumental music from Purcell's 'Fairy Queen', JS Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no.5 and the Second Orchestral Suite for flute, and various arias by Handel.  They visited Wigmore Hall in London, Brighton Festival, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Norfolk & Norwich Festival, Théâtre de Champs-Elysées in Paris, Istanbul Music Festival, Kloster Zinna near Berlin, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Bach doubles in Scandinavia

2011 sees the 20th anniversary of the founding of the orchestra Concerto Copenhagen by its director Lars Ulrik Mortensen.  One of the events to celebrate this anniversary is a tour of concerts in Denmark and Oslo featuring the concerti for two harpsichords by JS Bach, played by Trevor and Lars Ulrik.  The programme will also be recorded as a cd.  This project is special for two other reasons - firstly Lars Ulrik was a soloist in the original 1980 English Concert recording for Deutsche Grammophon of all the Bach multiple harpsichord concerti - and secondly Trevor and Lars Ulrik are playing on their own harpsichords which are both copies made in 2008 by the Californian builder John Phillips of instruments by the German builder Johann Heinrich Gräbner in 1739.
The pictures here show the orchestra in rehearsal and Trevor, Lars Ulrik and John Phillips with the harpsichords.
